Hashim Musa Killed: Security Tightened Across J&K Amid Retaliation Fears

Jammu and Kashmir has entered a heightened security phase following the elimination of senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Hashim Musa, also known as Asif Fauji, during a joint operation in Budgam district.

The killing is being viewed by security agencies as a significant setback for the LeT's operational network in the Union Territory. The Ministry of Home Affairs has called Musa's elimination a serious blow to the terror outfit's infrastructure.

Musa was reportedly the last surviving member of a four-member group of senior LeT commanders that had been active in Jammu and Kashmir since 2022. The group had been linked to several major terror attacks and other militant activities in the region.

With Musa's death, authorities believe the entire four-member command group has now been neutralised.

Security Grid Strengthened Across Kashmir

Following the operation, security forces have increased deployments at sensitive locations across the Kashmir Valley. Additional checkpoints and barricades have been established, while personnel and security vehicles are conducting intensified checks on major roads and routes connecting Srinagar with other districts.

Mobile checking teams have been carrying out surprise vehicle inspections, while night patrolling has also been stepped up. Security forces have simultaneously increased vigilance along sensitive stretches of the Line of Control (LoC) to guard against possible infiltration attempts.

Agencies Alert to Possible Terror Retaliation

Security officials have received intelligence inputs suggesting that Pakistan-based terror handlers could attempt to retaliate after losing a key commander.

According to officials, possible targets could include security installations, religious sites, VVIPs, migrant workers and crowded markets. Authorities are also watching for possible targeted killings or attacks aimed at creating fear and projecting the survival of militant networks.

The intelligence inputs indicate a potential threat and do not mean that an attack is confirmed or imminent.

The J&K Police, Army, CRPF and intelligence agencies are maintaining close coordination as surveillance is expanded across vulnerable areas.

Focus Shifts to Remaining Foreign Militants

Security agencies are also continuing to track foreign terrorists believed to be operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials estimate that around 35–40 foreign militants, most of them Pakistani nationals, could still be active in the region. The suspected network includes cadres associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, along with local over-ground workers providing logistical assistance.

Musa's elimination is therefore being seen as an important development in the wider campaign against militant networks. Authorities, however, remain alert to the possibility that surviving groups could attempt attacks to regain attention or create panic following the loss of one of their senior commanders.
