IndiGo Fuel Charge Hike: Flight Tickets to Get Costlier From October 6, Check New Rates
Air travel is set to become more expensive for IndiGo passengers as India's largest airline has announced a fresh increase in fuel charges across its domestic and international network.
The revised charges will apply to all new IndiGo bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026. The airline said the decision follows a sharp rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which have increased by more than 14% month-on-month and are now among the highest levels seen in the past decade.
IndiGo Domestic Fuel Charges
For domestic flights, the revised fuel charge will depend on the distance travelled:
Flight distance Fuel charge Up to 500 km ₹375 501–1,000 km ₹600 1,001–1,500 km ₹900 1,501–2,000 km ₹1,150 Above 2,000 km ₹1,300
The additional amount is charged per sector, meaning passengers taking connecting flights could face the applicable charge on each sector.
International Flight Charges
IndiGo has also revised fuel charges on several international routes. The new charges include ₹1,000 for SAARC flights up to 500 km and ₹3,000 for distances above 500 km.
For South East Asia, the GCC and Middle East, and North and East Asia, the revised charge is ₹5,500. Flights to Africa will carry a ₹6,000 fuel charge, while the charge for Europe remains at ₹10,000.
Why Has IndiGo Increased the Charges?
IndiGo said ATF prices have remained volatile, particularly amid geopolitical developments in the Middle East. The airline said the latest monthly increase of more than 14% has pushed fuel costs to levels among the highest in the last decade.
Since aviation fuel represents a significant portion of airline operating expenses, the increase has put additional pressure on IndiGo's cost structure.
The airline said completely absorbing the fuel-cost increase would have required a much larger adjustment. Instead, it has opted for what it described as a measured recalibration of fuel charges to limit the impact on passengers.
What This Means for Passengers
The new levy will directly increase the final ticket price for bookings made from October 6. Domestic travellers on longer routes will see an additional charge of up to ₹1,300 per sector, while international passengers could face substantially higher charges depending on their destination.
The move also comes during the festive travel period, when demand for flights typically increases, potentially making air travel more expensive for passengers planning upcoming trips.
