JeM’s Bahawalpur Terror Compound Rebuilt After India’s Operation Sindoor Strike

The Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) compound in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, which was damaged during India's Operation Sindoor strikes, has reportedly been extensively reconstructed and is once again operational.

The development has raised fresh concerns in India over the continued existence of terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and the alleged rebuilding of facilities associated with the UN-designated terrorist organisation.

JeM Compound Rebuilt After Operation Sindoor

The Markaz Subhanallah complex in Bahawalpur was among the sites targeted during India's Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the deadly 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

According to intelligence assessments and satellite imagery reportedly reviewed after the strikes, significant reconstruction has taken place at the compound.

Damaged structures, including domes and the central hall, have reportedly been repaired. The main building has also undergone renovation involving new plaster, paint and marble flooring.

Major Reconstruction Reported

Reports indicate that craters created by precision strikes have been filled and damaged sections of the complex restored.

Several adjacent structures, including residential buildings reportedly associated with the group's leadership, were also demolished and replaced with new construction.

According to intelligence sources cited in the report, approximately 25 crore Pakistani rupees were allegedly provided to JeM in cash instalments for rebuilding the facility. Around 11 crore Pakistani rupees was reportedly allocated for renovation of the main hall.

Bahawalpur Facility's Strategic Importance

The Markaz Subhanallah complex, located on the outskirts of Bahawalpur in Pakistan's Punjab province, has long been described by security analysts as an important facility associated with JeM.

The organisation has been accused of maintaining infrastructure connected to recruitment, training and terror planning.

JeM has also been linked by Indian authorities to several major terror attacks in India, including the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Masood Azhar Reportedly Sidelined

JeM founder Masood Azhar is reportedly sidelined because of health issues, while operational control of the Bahawalpur facility is believed to have shifted to his brothers Talha Al-Saif and Mohinuddin Aurangzeb, also known as Ammar Alvi.

Azhar and his brother Rauf Asghar are reportedly believed to be living under protection in Pakistan's Sindh province.

India Raises Concerns Over Terror Infrastructure

India has repeatedly accused Pakistan of allowing terrorist organisations to operate from its territory.

The reported reconstruction of the Bahawalpur compound is likely to renew concerns over whether terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan has actually been dismantled.

The development also comes amid continued tensions between India and Pakistan, with New Delhi previously highlighting facilities such as the Bahawalpur compound as evidence of alleged continued support and safe haven for terrorist groups.
